Day 23 | MOE Progress Presentation and Data Verification Exercise Meeting

We got up very early today so we could join the online SHANTU Project Progress Presentation for Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MOE) together with Xinzhuang Elementary School and Chiputula Primary School. The call between the two schools was to greet and get to know each other for the first time, and propose potential future collaborations. The headmaster of Chipula Primary and the principal of Xinzhuang Elementary started off the call by introducing themselves and their schools. Then the students had an opportunity to meet each other and ask each other questions. The teachers of Chiputula and the Xinzhuang also introduced themselves as well. After the meeting, the headmaster showed us the area of the school where he wishes to plant the school’s orchard to grow mangoes, apples, bananas and other fruits. We also had a chance to try roasted maize, which tasted kind of like popcorn but more hard and crunchy.

After the visit to Chiputula, some of the team went home to prepare our data analysis and curriculum while April and Rena joined the District Health Office’s Data Verification Exercise meeting at St Andrew’s Hospital. The different Health Surveillance Assistant (HSA) officers from different hospitals joined together to discuss their Covid-19 vaccination strategy and monitoring and evaluation. It was very interesting because the officers talked about the strengths and weaknesses of their outreach efforts and addressed the issues they’ve faced in the community.
