Global health capacity Project

One of the three core SHANTU projects

Build a global health workforce

Help with centralizing and standardizing COVID-19 health data

Connect students from different countries

◦Assisting with data  sharing and visualization.

Share experience and expertise

◦Attend weekly strategy meeting with health workers in Mzuzu, Malawi  on updates with COVID-19 situation in Zimba North District.

In response to the global pandemic and the unequally distributed burden caused by COVID-19 around the world, the SHANTU project ste out to collaborate with local partners in Malawi to help out where needed. Our local partners like Luke International, have the hands on experience and first hand information what is needed in this time of crises, to help local communities best. Therefore emergency meetings were established between Malawian partners and our COVID-19 response team, to evaluate what student contribution would be most valuable.

Currently weekly strategy and update meetings are by the team with health representatives from Malawi as the seek to continue with data analysis and visualization work. Such work will result in much needed data visualization for the general public. In some contexts in Malawi there is a shortage of emergency response items, such as PPE, which is endangering communities and their healthcare workers. Therefore we started to explore possibilities to help out with PPE and other resources to partners in need in Malawi.

Global health work is highly intricate but incredibly rewarding, involving the opportunity to engage with different groups of people on projects that help those most vulnerable.
