The first day of the event is organized by students in Taiwan. Experts in the public health field in Taiwan will share their expertise on the Taiwanese approaches to the COVID-19 pandemic. The moderator of this day will be Wen-Yi Lee (李玟儀 )

Professor Chang Chuan Chan

Distinguished Professor Chan from NTU’s institute of environmental and occupational health will give the opening remarks.

Dr. P. Kumwenda

Dr. Kumwenda from Mzuzu universities department of Biomedical Sciences will give the opening remarks.

Professor Hsien-Ho Lin

Vice dean of NTU’s college of public health, Professor Lin, will address the practices and results of non-pharmaceutical interventions in the Taiwanese context in his keynote speech.

Dr. Wang Chia Wen

Dr. Wang will give a presentation on her recent work, focussing on vaccination and facemask use in Taiwan, the United States, Haïti and the Netherlands.

The second day of the symposium is organized by students from Mzuzu University. Experiences and best practices will be shared by experts from Malawi. The moderator of this day will be Tressor Nyirenda.

Dr.Linda Kalilani Phiri

Linda Kalilani is Senior Director & Head of Oncology Epidemiology at GlaxoSmithKline. She has worked as an epidemiologist in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years. She has led the development of cross-functional real-world evidence strategies, has extensive experience leading the design and execution of real-world evidence studies, and leading initiatives to improve governance processes for implementing real world evidence studies. She has also worked in academia as an Associate Professor at the College of Medicine (COM), University of Malawi, teaching research methodology courses and conducting research in examining the effect of malaria and HIV on pregnancy outcomes.

The last day of the symposium will be about sharing student experiences. Students panels will answer how the pandemic affected their country and lives, in both Malawi and Taiwan.

Country changes: COVID-19 and the future

This panel will discuss the challenges Taiwan and Malawi encountered over the course of the pandemic, with a focus the challenges students in Taiwan and Malawi encountered and how to overcome them in the future.

Dr. Bridget Msolomba Malewezi

Medical doctor & public health practitioner, with experience in program management and research with a focus on women’s and children’s health. Passionate about innovative approaches to the improvement of health systems and the health sector overall.
