I joined SHANTU to apply the knowledge I’ve gained over the last year in classes on global health project implementation/design to empower communities to promote health at all levels

What do you hope to gain from this project?

I hope this project will teach me project evaluation skills I will be able to apply to global health projects in the future, and I hope to improve my leadership and intercultural communication skills. Also, this project is teaching me how to apply many of the core global health values and concepts I have learned through coursework into a real-world project, such as addressing health from the level of individuals to entire communities, incorporating perspectives of people from diverse professional and personal backgrounds into the work we do, and considering mental, social, and physical aspects of health.

This initiative is at the crossroad of my personnel and professional interests as it can help me develop my technical and theoretical knowledge on social projects and initiatives to question both a community and its views on agriculture and nutrition

When I first saw the notice about joining the SHANTU team to assess school gardens in Taiwan and in Malawi, I saw the opportunity to learn from this experience and further being able to help replicate this initiative in Haiti. So, I jumped on board. Now, I am living a great international experience with students with multidisciplinary skills.  Also, I am enjoying the opportunity to strengthen my skills in project evaluation.

“I joined SHANTU to learn more about project implementation and best practices when working with foreign communities. I am excited about increasing environmental and sustainability awareness through the school gardens!

I joined SHANTU in order to have experience school gardening implementation and sustainable nutrition education promotion. I am excited to learn a lot from this project.
