Xinzhuang Elementary School & Global Health education

After last year’s successful collaboration with Xinzhuang Elementary School, SHANTU intensified the relationship this year by educating Xinzhuang Elementary School students on Global Health issues. After COVID-19 cases started to rise in Taiwan, we adapted the course to a virtual format and continued holding thematic English UN SDGs courses for students. Over 5 sessions, we taught students about global health with a focus on COVID-19 and the UN SDGs with a focus on climate action and health.

Our team designed interactive activities for classes, including incorporating reading stories, learning songs, and playing Pictionary into our courses. We taught our students English words related to UN SDGs, as well as important concepts in global health and sustainability. Outside of our class time, Xinzhuang students prepared a comic strip depicting themselves as superheroes to help achieve the UN SDGs and a photo of themselves doing something to help achieve the UN SDGs.

During our last session, the students shared what they had learned from our course through a virtual presentation. We also invited Natasha, one of our community partners in Malawi, to join our presentation. We were happy we could include Natasha in the presentation and remain committed to global health knowledge and experience sharing between Malawi and Taiwan. All of us were impressed by the children’s creativity and passion to make the world a better place, and we feel hopeful that our next generation will succeed in building a healthier, safer world for all.

Keep following us for more updates on the Xinzhuang Elementary School project. In the coming months regular updates will be posted for summer camp activities that will be organized by Xinzhuang Elementary School and SHANTU.
